Logistics

- Schleswig-Holstein is much more than a mere transit region.
The dynamic development of the Southwest Baltic Region is strengthening Schleswig-Holstein’s important interface function for transit traffic between the Baltic Region and Western Europe. Well over 20 million tonnes of seaborne goods a year are handled in Lübeck’s Port alone. Some 30,000 ships pass through the Kiel Canal each year, transporting around 100 million tonnes of goods.
The on-going development of key traffic arteries through Schleswig-Holstein will add to the importance of the state’s transit function. The bridge across the Fehmarn Belt will create even closer links between Schleswig-Holstein and Scandinavia and speed up the flow of traffic between the two regions.
But Schleswig-Holstein is much more than a mere transit region. It is also an excellent location for all kinds of logistics companies. Along the main traffic arteries and especially in close proximity to the most important transport hubs, ports and harbours there are plenty of well-developed commercial sites – and 1,410 hectares of the 3,630 hectares are still available. For logistics-oriented companies setting up business here Schleswig-Holstein offers huge potential.
